Spooky Stories in the 2C
In this exciting project, which involved three subjects - German, English and Art - pupils of the 2C class wrote spooky stories first in German, which they translated into English afterwards.
Meanwhile, in the art lessons, they learnt about various historical examples of shadow theatre, ranging from early 20th-century Europe (for example, Lotte Reiniger, the pioneer of animation films) to the fashionable German silhouette designs of the 18th century and traditional Indonesian shadow theatre, where, in addition to paper, animal skin was used to create figures.
After lots of discussions, preparatory sketches and careful considerations, pupils cut out silhouettes in large format to illustrate their spooky stories.
Once the illustrations were finished, the images were projected onto a large canvas in the classroom and the stories were acted out as a theatre by their authors.
As a continuation and documentation, pupils followed up the project in the art classes within the bookbinding unit, where they had the chance to produce printouts of their illustrations and bind them together with the stories in a handmade booklet.
